Firefox does not react on certain menus
my father bought a new laptop to himself and it had a SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 installed on it.
I am using OpenSuse on my own machine, so I thought it should be pretty straigt forward to manage that. But as it always is, there is something odd. ;)
He realized he could not manage to click on buttons in certain menus on certain websites. It was in his web interface for his mail account and I found the same behaviour to happen in my hotmail.com account as well.
If I write a new email and then change to my my inbox for example without having saved the mail there is a menu pointing out I am dismissing the current Email without sending it (as I have the german version the text may be a little different in different languages). Anyway it leaves me with the two buttons "cancel" and "OK" and whatever I do next it does not happen anything in that tab. I can click on it and it seems it it pushed but nothing happens.
As this is the same behaviour my father had with his email account this seems to be a general setting or problem, which (I think) could maybe be easily solved, if I knew the right buttons. ;)
So have you any idea what I could try or look at to solve that.
Thanks in advance!
Microsoft's Hotmail BLOCKS linux from using it
there is a browser/OS check, it is looking for MS windows 7 or vista using IE
install in firefox "user agent switcher" ( it is in the add ons )
and set it to reply as internet explorer 9 on windows 7
also there might be a java issue
and if "No-script" and / or "ad block plus" are being used they NEED to be configured
"Ghostery " can also stop some buttons working if the tracking cookies( AND the third party tracking cookies ) ARE NEEDED for the buttons to work
some sites do do that , they force you to install the advertisers tracking cookies for the site to work
I am using Firefox 16 on Debian Wheezy. No issues at all with HotMail/Live/Outlook.com and have no issues whatsoever, other than getting the message that I am using an unsupported browser and some features may be disabled. Now mind you I really only use it for email but as well I have no issues with the (soon to die) web based Messenger service I must use to communicate with others.
I do now have any add-ons installed, so as JohN VV suggested, worth looking into any that may disable scripts and such. I remember when I was using NoScript, it made many sites break.
I do not think this is a general Hotmail on Linux problem as I am using it on my own Laptop without any problems. This problem is more likely to be something weird with Java or Javascropt or whatever is responsible for the user dialogue because it happens on different webpages with the same dialogue as well. I just have found one for me in hotmail, which i though could be testet by a couple of people very easily.
So probably the first question is, what kind of dialogue is that? I am not familiar with webprogramming, so I dont know. :( Maybe we could then figure out, what could be changed in the settings.
And as far as I can see, there are no Add-ons as Addblock for example installed. This is a pretty virgin Firefox. ;)
Does anyone know how to do updates on SLED?
SUSE Enterprise Linux Desktop
is a NON-FREE operating system
register the install and buy the support contract from novell
bought preinstalled it should have a one year contract , and only needs registering
then if a root password is used and not the first normal used
"su -" VS. " sudo "
the "Add and remove software " gui
apper will pop up a notice in the system tray about updates
So I cannot just use regular OpenSuse packages to do updates, can I?
Thats a pitty, I thought this could work out, but my father wants to use the system as long as possible and he does not like changes...
I guess if I try to argue with him about installing a different distribution he just will install Windows...
Well, I will at least try to update the software tonight and see, if there is any difference. I took a look at the Firefox version and it seemed to be either 7 or 10, so pretty old I guess. Although I lost the overview if they are releasing a major version every week...
contact Novell sales
and register the install
updates are auto installed
the current is Firefox 19.0
so updating made the trick with the weird behaviour regarding the menus! :)
Thanks a lot!
buy the novell license !
or install opensuse
for a temporary fix without the required license
well you can remove the OpenSUSE 12.2 firefox from SELD11
and install the offical firefox from the web site
--- 32 bit English lang. USA --
remove the opensuse ff
extract the " firefox-19.0.2.tar.bz2"
--- you might need to install "bzip two "
copy it to /opt
add /opt/firefox to the system $PATH
and that should be it
I have had similar issues but with Ubuntu on a MyBB forum I run.
Bro microsoft blocked it
