Firefox adds .exe to downloads

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
After using Firefox for a while (ver 1.5 and now 2.0.0.3), when downloading files of any type (.rpm .exe .iso etc), the download manager adds .exe to the downloaded filename, eg: filename.rpm becomes filename.rpm.exe. Anyone know why, and how to stop it?

Never heard of that one. Googled a bit with no luck. I would contact the firefox developement team. I would they may have run into it or at least think it may be a security bug that needs resolved. They did recommend going to 2.0.08 about 2 weeks ago do to security risk. Current 2.0.0.9 I believe. First i would remove the old version then install the new.

Before upgrading do this.
Close any firefox windows.
Rename .mozilla in your home directory.
Then open a clean firefox and try downloading. It may be from some conrupt configurations in your own configs.

Thankyou Brian1 and bob dobbs - I tried Google, but obviously asked the wrong questions. I've had the problem on non ntfs systems, and when downloading to FAT32 and ext3, so it will be good when the bug is fixed. It's particularly annoying when downloading a pile of dependancies.

FYI: I have never experienced this on Reiserfs (3.6.x), only FAT32 and NTFS.
I have never tried it on ext3.
