File Manager opening non-stop after login

Ok, not sure what I did and I need help fixing it

CentOS 6

I followed the directions HERE in order to mount my Google Drive folder. The plus side: it works very very well. The downside: somewhere along the way I messed something up and now File Manager opens over and over and over again, at least 20+ occurrences at a time, and then closes. Let me clarify, the individual occurrences eventually close, however there are always new ones being created. The program stays in the taskbar, it does not open a window.

At first I followed the instructions to mount google drive at startup. However after a reboot this problem started and I went back and deleted the script and removed the fstab line. Yet the problem remains.

also, something I just noticed: my desktop icons are not showing up. Might be related?

I am trying to think of a way to let me see what is actually going on behind the scenes so I can kill it. Any advice?

Ok, so I used my late fathers sage advice: If it doesn't work hit it. If it still doesn't work get a bigger hammer. So, I got the biggest hammer I could find to kill the process: yum remove nautilus

And, sure enough, that stopped the symptom, yet I still don't know what the underlying cause was.

I am going to reinstall nautilus to see if it was just something that was messed up with the program itself

ok, so reinstalled nautilus. The parade of windows are gone, however looking at top I see nautilus is sucking up 90% of the CPU. however, it does so in cycles: roughly 30sec max CPU, 20sec idle. Now I am really curious.
