FC17 KDE Desktop of "Folder view" layout - icons disappear after reboot

Hello,

I recently (few days ago) started experiencing a non-deterministic
anomaly on my Desktop: it's of the "Folder view" layout with few icons
and apps. launchers being arranged in a particular way I like them
and once in a while, after reboot all the icons are gone and some
strange scroll bar appears at the right side of the desktop (I have
only one virtual screen). The way to cope with it (kind of "cope")
is to right-click on the desktop, select "Folder view settings",
then select layout other then "Folder view" (I use "Default desktop"),
click "apply" then select layout "Folder view" and click "apply" -
this brings the icons but of corse they're arranged alphabetically
and not in the locations I need them so I need to spend time arranging them
again.

In the "Startup/Shutdown" -> "Session management" -> "On Login"
the selected option is:

"Restore previous session".
Maybe I need to change it to "Restore manually saved session"
but how should I save a session? "Googling" brought be
articles from MANY years back so I can't thrust them.

Does anyone have an idea what causing this?
What usefull info can I supply?

TIA for any help.

Hello again,

Does the absense of responses means I'm the only one with this problem?

Meanwhile I have some more info about this anomaly: when I encounter
a post-boot desktop without icons, I discovered that if I reboot - most
of the times the icons are restored at their proper locations. Sometimes,
when a reboot results again in the no-icons on the desktop, if I'll continue
doing few reboots the icons occasionally re-appear. It almost looks
like some file that the session should be saved into not always
saved properly or, the desktop restore from the saved file not always
works properly.

Can anyone tell me please, in what file(s) the KDE saves the session so I'll
have a closer look at the file(s) contents?

This instability causes me to miss the GNOME 2 of FC14. Pity the GNOME 3
of FC17 is so much different (and, IMHO, unproductive for serious non web-related
uses with MANY things opened at once) that I had to switch to KDE.

TIA for any help,

Fedora 16 had some issues with KDE 4 too.
Updates will usually fix the most of the issues.

Fedora 17 : Haven't used the "Desktop".
My method is to add an empty panel at the top.
And keep all desktop entries (+ some applets) there.

Hi knudfl,

thanks for the reply.

What packages are related to desktop behavior so I'll update them (I'm
not sure I want updating all packages)? Currently, the kde-related packages I have are:
