Estimated release date and screenshots of KDE 4?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hi,

What is the current estimated release date (or some other important date) for KDE 4? I have seen the KDE 4 release plan, but it seams to be outdated.

And I am also looking for screenshots of KDE 4.

Start here: http://www.kde.org/ and read the bits in the centre of the screen and you will see that DE 3.8 (a developer snapshot) is out.

Also see:

Since it's still being developed, I would say that it'll be ready when it's ready.

If you want to follow weekly progress for KDE .40, take a look at commit-digest. KDE 4.0 currently just looks the same as KDE 3.x but new themes are being worked on and the visual appearance of KDE 4.0 will be quite different from 3.x.

Arrow I know

I know it is currently in development. That is why I asked for an estimated release date. Will it take a couple of years (Microsoft style), one year (Apple style) or six months (Canonical style)?

I'm under the impression that it's intended to be released this year. But the overriding principle is of course "it's ready when it's ready."

If you're a bit adventurous, you'll be able to use it long before then. I suspect there will be packages for Ubuntu Feisty shortly after it's released, and other distros too. KDE betas usually work pretty well.
