ERROR: Encrypted private directory is not setup properly

I performed an upgrade from Kubuntu 9.1 to 10.4 Beta 1. There was an error and now I can no longer access my encrypted home directory. When I try to mount it I get the message 'ERROR: Encrypted private directory is not setup properly'. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Read the release notes for clues.

Run "sudo file -s <device>" to examine information about the /home partition. If it is a Luks partition you can try using cryptsetup to map a decrypted device. E.g.: cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda6 cr_home

If this works, make a backup. You have the option to recreate you /home partition and restore.

You may have better luck using the rescue mode of your old Ubuntu version.
