Dumb Text Editor for linux

I used to use a great little editor with windows called pfe (programmers file editor). But now I have a linux desktop I cant seem to find one that does the same?

The main thing I want is when you copy-paste text from a webpage, table, etc, it brings none of the formatting across, for example a table would just come across as text with no "table", and a web page would have no HTML tags, just text.

Anyone know of one like this? OpenOffice is too clever and brings everything across.

Thanks

Open Office is a word processor. Try a text editor like vi, emacs, pico/nano or kate.
