Dual monitors and login screen

I have set up a classroom computer with Ubuntu and it is connected to a monitor and a projector. The problem is, when I start it up, the login screen defaults to the projector, so I either have to turn it on to log in or remove the VGA cable to force the login screen to my display monitor. Is there any way I can force the login screen to appear on the desktop monitor rather than the projector? The monitor is connected via DVI and the projector is connected with a VGA. I'm using a Gigabyte board with on-board video and dual outputs. It's not a serious issue, just one of convenience. The system otherwise works flawlessly.

i just found this:
Quote:
I managed to find a fix for my problem. I simply added this to my /etc/default/grub file:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="<default paramaters> video=LVDS-1:d"

Then did a good ol' fashin grub-update.
This disabled the laptop's LCD on boot, and allowed the external monitor to automatically set its resolution, which worked without a hitch.
my guess is, you have to replace "LVDS" with "VGA", otherwise it should be the exact same command.
then, after login, you can re-activate the projector with a monitor settings utility of your choice or via command line with xrandr.
does this help?
