Dual-booting windows 7 after installing slackware 14
 

I think I found my answer in another thread but I want to verify some information. And make sure that these things still apply as they were in reference to windows XP (Though I don't see totally how they could apply if i do what they say) But alright first off

I have Slackware installed on a hard drive four partitions

I have a second hard drive i want to use for windows 7 but when i partition that hard drive and format it using the windows disc it won't go past it when I click next it won't even give me a warning saying it's creating that 100MB parition windows 7 requires so badly. I wish I could give you the exact error if you guys request it cause you need it then I'll take the time to get it but I feel you probably in any situtation probably know better then me whats going on. I have made sure it's getting the correct paritions and drives.

Now what I've seen and i see possibly one flaw and why I'm still posting this is to remove the linux hard drive and leave the other hard drive connected try to install windows (Cause I have seen now that you need to install windows usually first and why i've never ran into this issue i think is because well I always try windows first just outta habit and guess I've probably forgotten why) then I would plug back in my linux drive and have that be the master and hopefully lilo will load and not the windows MBR and I can go into linux edit lilo.conf to see windows and all be fine and dandy. Is there anything I'm missing? Anything that won't work? Thank you!

Hi, I have win7 on sdc1.

When I installed it I detached the data cables from my other 2 (linux)drives.

I made 3 partitions and marked the drive as active (bootable), and left them unformatted.

Insert windows dvd, and selected the first partition, the recovery/rescue/boot partition was made automagickly.

It may be getting stuck on your first partition (size factor rejection) or corrupted partition table.

I hope this helps.

p.s. it's usually better to use the windows disk format than linux for ntfs, as the partition will need to be formatted with the windows installer disk tools.

Allow windows to install a mbr, and reboot windows untill the setup is complete.

Repatch the linux drives and hopefully grub looks where you left it and finds the windows partition.

You need to install Windows first before installing Slackware. Windows will create the System Boot Partition and the main file partition.

Next install Linux but only use 2 main partitions /boot and /(root) and create swap as a logical drive. You don't need a ton of separated partitions.

You can use LILO, eLILO, GRUB Legacy, GRUB2, or SysLinux to use a s a bootloader to choose between Windows and Linux.

Never heard of swap being a logical partition but haha I'm thinking I know what I need to do sadly and so be it I will do it cause I need to backup system like as soon as something fails

I've always tossed swap onto a logical. Just habit really.
