digikam

hello i have a question regarding digikam, i have read a few other threads but none addresses this particular problem:

i have installed several versions of mepis on different machines and one machine running kubuntu, all different versions of digikam but they all have the same thing in common and that is that digikam shows thumbnails of what pictures are stored on the camera but it cannot copy from the camera to hard drive.

it gives the warning message:
FAILED TO DOWNLOAD FILE DCP_4321.JPG. DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE?

when i click 'continue' it will give the same warning for the next picture and so on. when i run the same under root the problem remains.

thanks
ron.

I don't know about digikam and I don't have a digital camera yet. ( there is still time to get me one for Christmas )
Anyway, the last time I helped someone, we used gphoto to grab images and here are some notes from that...
Code:
#list the available commands for gphoto2
gphoto

#list the available files on the detected camera
gphoto2 --auto-detect -L

#download all files from the detected camera to your present directory
gphoto2 --auto-detect -P .

#list all information about your detected camera
gphoto2 --auto-detect -a
