/dev/pts/n group mode always the same

Im trying to properly setup permissions on Debian. The /dev/pts/N files are created with mose 0640. This only allows groups to write, not read from within some of my programs. This will happen as an error when I su at the terminal.

ive fiddled with the /etc/default/devpts file and changed mode to 0660 forr TTYMODE. Not so good. Ive heard something about mounts, could there be something here?

The rules un udev is a no brainer...
