Desktop weather/downloads


is there some kind of download i can get that shows my local weather and the download process on my desktop-something like DSL's menu on the right that shows CPU usage, swap usage, etc. (i use ubuntu 6.10)

You could try using gdesklets. Its similar to Superkaramba (take a look at my KDE screenshot) and I am sure you can find a weather applet for it somewhere.

If I recall correctly, there is a weather reporting application included by default that you can add up to the top bar in GNOME.
