Red face Desktop to Panel

I have done this before but now I can't remember or find how I did it. The available emoticons don't begin to express the embarrassment I feel.

Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 3.2.7 Evernote web version.

I dragged the EN URL to my desktop to create a shortcut. I renamed it Evernote. I downloaded to my desktop a .png icon file to use with it.

I want to associate the .png icon with the shortcut and then pin the shortcut in panel.

Help appreciated (no laughing please)

No laughing, I promise. I would right click on the desktop "shortcut" you made and see if there is a way to change the icon to the one prefer. After that is done, I believe you can just drag the shortcut to the panel? Or maybe there is a right-click option to add it to favorites? I don't use Cinnamon and it's been a long time since I have so can't really offer anything other than that, sorry.

Nope. None of those possibilities offered in the drop down. Sorry, I can't get a screenshot of the drop down because clicking on the screenshot app closes the drop down. Thanks for the suggestion though.

OK, partially solved. the Evernote Web icon is already in usr/share/icons/Mint-Y/apps/64

All I need now is to get the desktop shortcut into panel and then edit in panel to assign the icon.

Glad you have it partially solved. I used to use Evernote but haven't in over a year. Have you checked out the Linux client version, NixNote?

NixNote is a popular unofficial Evernote client for Linux desktops. I did use it and it seem to have worked pretty good for my purposes. Just a thought!

I have Nixnote installed and have been messing with it but as I have done that, I am coming to the realization that Evernote Web is going to be all I will need. I am seldom (that is to say almost never) working off line (either wired or away from wifi) so the web is fine.

EN is a mind bender at first though. After decades of professional work with physical, hierarchical filing systems and then moving to MS OneNote and then escaping the clutches of MS, it is taking some time to get familiar with the organizational methods that EN uses, especially the concept of useful, structured tagging (see Michael Hyatt, for example).

All I need now is to figure out how get my desktop generic icon moved to panel and then I will edit the panel Launcher to use one of th EN icons already included with Mint-Y theme.

Thanks for the response.

[SOLVED

After a bunch of dumb (on my part) monkeying around, I figured out how I did this last time and made it work. Brain dead simple once I figured it out (again). Thanks.
