I have just installed FC6, and when i run "desktop-effects" in command line, I got the reply "desktop effects could not be enabled". and the code is [root@localhost ~]# desktop-effects
gnome-window-decorator: Screen 0 on display ":0.0" already has a decoration manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current decoration manager. compiz: GLX_SGIX_fbconfig is missing compiz: Failed to manage screen: 0 compiz: No managable screens found on display :0.0 i am new to linux, anyone got some ideas? thanx :) |
have you tried the command:
Code:
desktop-effects --replace EDIT: also check out this thread http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/pri...9&page=3&pp=80 |
How about enabling them as a normal user and not root. I think there is a menu entry somewhere that allows you to do this.

Same problem in FC6
I'm having the same problem. I get the same error message and when I try the --replace I also get the same error.
I am fairly new to the whole graphical effects in linux so ny help would be appreciated. Thanks |
I'm a bit of a newbie too;), but does your graphics card support the kind of effects you're trying to enable?
|
gfx card
well it's an ati 128 mb, looked smashing on windows. I'm pretty sure that it could handle the piddly little demands on compiz.

have you installed the ATI drivers from their website or are you just using the default drivers that come with FC6?
