Deskop computer recommendation

Hi everyone,

Hope this is the right place to post this question.

What I need:
I have $1,000 budget for a desktop. I'm looking for at least a fully multi-threading Intel i7 chip.
Ram and HD space is not terribly important. I can upgrade later.
Video card would be good, but I'm behind on current terns.

What I do:
I do podcasts and edit videos that are normally about 4 to 8 minutes. The biggest video clips would be 45 minutes. I shoot pictures in RAW with a Nikon.

I found the following:

http://zareason.com/Mediabox-565.html

http://zareason.com/Mediabox-560.html

https://slimbook.es/en/store/slimbook-o ... i7-comprar

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I have two Zareasons, though not one of those models (mine are a Limbo and a Strata).

I'm very happy with them. I also had a warranty issue with the optical drive in the desktop and Zareason stepped up to the plate like a trooper and shipped me a replacement the same day I called them.

A couple of random suggestions for Linux-compatible i7 desktop computers suitable for graphics professional small business/home office:

System76 Wild Dog Pro
$799 base system with 8gb ram and 250gb solid state drive + $175 i7 upgrade = $974
https://system76.com/desktops/wild-dog

Dell Precision 3000 mini tower
$649 base system with 4gb ram and 500gb hard drive + $269 i7 upgrade - $109 Ubuntu discount = $809
http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/pr...es-workstation

As far as available graphics cards upgrades, System76 offers GTX 10x0 series, whereas Dell offers choices of AMD FirePro or Nvidia Quadro. The GTX series is probably the most popular right now for consumer/gaming/general usage. FirePro and Quadro are more popular in the business market for Autocad or 3-D rendering, and to run stable under heavy use.

One suggestion is to start out with the base price Intel HD 530 integrated graphics for a while, see how you like it, and then install an aftermarket dedicated GPU of your choice at some later date, if you deem it necessary in actual use.

Thanks @szboardstretcher, spec'ed out something really nice there. Great find.

Likewise @frankbell. I'm hearing good things about Zareason.

Ditt5o @snowpine. I'm always a little iffy with Dell. I had so much hardware breakdown with that company, mainly optical drives. Good point starting off with the onboard one. I would be happier with a FirePro or Quadra.

As an aside, the primary reason I picked Zareason over System76 or ThinkPenguin is that Zareason allows you to pick your distro. Ubuntu lost me with Unity.

I ordered my machines with Slackware, and they arrived with Slackware. Slack is not in their pick list, but you can ask for it in the "Comments" field when you place an order.

Also, when you telephone Zareason, a real live human being whose menu options have not recently changed answers the phone. It rather takes one aback the first time.

Good point about Zareason and yes to Ubuntu. I'm hearing too many things that is making me look elsewhere. I'm running Antix on an old Dell and will continue with Debian. I might look into Arch through Manjaro, but I really liked the MATE desktop. Don't know if all that is compatible.

I just need a desktop I can upgrade later and a notebook, or laptop I can get later when I'm mobile.

I built my own desktop box (in around 2010/2011, the motherboard/mainboard is Intel DH55TC, video card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti PCIe. Processor is a i7, and PC has 8GB RAM. Intel and NVIDIA are well supported on Linux.

Hope this helps.

Maybe you can find something here for a decent price.

http://www.pcliquidations.com

These are refurbished so they are fairly cheap. Plus you can get them without an operating-system, which is perfect for Linux users!
