Delayed Loading of GRUB off IDE
I seem to have run into a slight problem my current setup. Before I had two installs of Linux, one on my SATA drive and one on my IDE drive. Before I added in the SATA, grub would load quickly and I would be booted into linux in under a minute. After I added it in it would take a good minute or two to just load grub.
I've removed the install on the SATA so now I have an install of kubuntu edgy on the IDE drive with the partition on the SATA set as my home directory. I have a seperate partition for /boot too. I'm still having this issue. I resolved it the first time (with the two installs) but changing the hard drive boot priority so that it would boot off my SATA drive. However now when I do that, it doesn't work (most likely because there is no /boot folder in there). the grub loader is still installed to the MBR on the SATA drive, but I set it so none of the partitions are active on the SATA. The only active partition on the IDE is /boot. I'm trying to figure out what is causing this, but I'm not really sure what it could be. An option I've considered is moving /boot to the SATA so that grub would boot off the SATA and load the boot options and kernel and the system would just run off the IDE. |
