Debian Squeeze kde4: fonts are "too thin" to read comfortably.

I am using Debian Squeeze with kde4 on a laptop having the GMA 4500 graphics chip. My problem concerns the way fonts are drawn. The size is Ok, but the lines with which the fonts are drawn are too fine! I installed my fonts including the sans serif font. I also tried to use sans serif, without real success. I would like to increase the with of the lines with which fonts are drawn.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS:
I did google to find whether someone else has solved the same problem before, but the search results seem to be irrelevant to my problem.
