Ctrl + Z is not working in GNOME Terminal, that is it isn't sending the running program to background. Very annoying! Does someone happen to know howto change this?
What do you expect when you use ctrl-z (lower case)?
ctrl-z stops (!!) the job and puts it in the background. You can retrieve it again by using fg
If you want to put a running job in the background (and keep it running) you can add & at the end of the command or if you already started the job you can use ctrl-z followed by bg The bg starts the job that is put into the background with ctrl-z
If the above isn't what you are after: Does ctrl-z never work or doesn't it work in specific circumstances? (If so: please tell us when it doesn't work).
Also: Have you checked the Keyboard Shortcuts (Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts). Maybe ctrl-z is reassigned to something else.
Please be precise. What, exactly, are you using?
- Hold down ctrl key followed by a lower case z?
- Hold down ctrl key followed by a + followed by a z?
It should be the first one.
Do you have the same problem when using an xterm (or any other terminal)?
Did you check the Keyboard Shortcuts as suggested in my previous post?
