Question Could not download all repository indexes

Hi I am a newbie using Linux I have used Windows for years, and am tired of the problems with it. I am using Linux Mint 14.1 with cinnamon, on a HP Pavilion dv6 64 bits w/AMD turlon x2 chip/4megs ram, it was working great.
I lost the connection to my Internet (Cable 15mbs) after it came back up. I saw that the an system need an update. I tried to update and got the following, rebooted and tried again same thing happened. The reboot took over 4 minutes. The same thing happens each time I boot now and still get the same error when I try to update.

Thanks for any help

Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Well that's requesting mint packages from the ubuntu servers, so will clearly never work. How this came to be trying that I've no diea... did you make some manual changes?

AFAIK, the default /etc/apt?sources.list file on Nadia should look like this:

Code:
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ nadia main upstream import
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ quantal partner
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ quantal free non-free

#deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu quantal-getdeb apps
#deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu quantal-getdeb games
so make yours look like that and try again.

Have you tried to access the files using a regular Web browser ? Trying to access
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/di...source/Sources
with firefox gives "The requested URL /ubuntu/dists/nadia-security/main/source/Sources was not found on this server."
(this is what 404 error means) and indeed the nadia-security directory does not exist anymore on the ubuntu.com server.
Since I am only familiar with Slackware and Scientific Linux I cannot help much.
My guess would be that the Nadia distribution has reached end of support, and has been removed from the Ubuntu servers. If this is the case, it is a general problem for all Linux Mint users, but nothing is wrong on
your machine. It is quite possible that the Linux Mint web site or the Linux Mint forums already provide a workaround
to that problem (unless your Mint distribution is also too old to be still supported).

Did you splunk that ninja?
or first google 'hit' for "default nadia sources.list" and isn't it the about the same thing "now"?

back on topic. Whatever Chris says, do.
Defaults are great, everyone should make copies.
