Unhappy Connecting ADSL modem to USB interface

Hai,
I am using ubuntu 7.10 edition of linux, and i would like to know how to configure to connect the ADSL modem to USB interface.
i was using the internet by connecting to the ethernet port, and as my ethernet port burned off i am now using the usb interface to connect it in windows.
even though i have configured the "pppoeconf" still the usb is not detected as wired connection in the ubuntu.
how can i solve this problem?..

Regards,
Plato
