I have just installed compiz-fusion , herin refered to as cf, and I have two questions. One, I would like a graphical manager for all the compiz effects, and two, I would like a window decorator like emerald to work with my current configuration. I start compiz-fusion from a terminal by typing compiz. Any help would be nice.

You need to run the CompizConfig Settings Manager. It should be in your apps menu, if not, you can start it by typing: ccsm.

Not sure about PCLinuxOS, but in ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon the compiz manager runs well.

The problem is that it's not well documented yet (even in the compiz forums) so you need to do a lot of experimenting before you get exactly what you want.

And what everyone wants, of course, is the 3D cube. Right?

If that's where you're stuck, get back to the thread and I'll try to help...or at least as much as a ubuntuer can!

Okay, thanks guys. It works now, and it starts up when KDE starts (did I mention I was using Kubuntu? They are the same OS to me), and it runs nicely. I was unaware that the compiz packages were in the official Ubuntu repositories, and I linked to another repository which was broken, so I had no emerald and configuration options. I removed the broken compiz, and used the official Ubuntu repositories. They now work quite nicely. Just one more question: When I want the 3d cube, I get a wall, with two desktops. Is there a way that can be turned into a cube?

Enable the desktop-cube and rotate plugin in the ccsm.

Yes it's compiz fusion, and to my relief they just keep using 'compiz' as the official name. It has caused enough confusion as it is.

thank you. I would like to thank all of you. But, unfortunately, since I am a linux newbie, I have, for sure, one last question: I have the desktop cube function enabled, but I am not getting a desktop cube. I am getting more of a desktop wall. It is a 2d wall that had two desktops. Any ideas on how to fix this?

type in ccsm in terminal as {BBI}Nexus{BBI} said..then under general and then desktop size. move the slider for horizontal virtual size.
I ran into the same problem when I updated to ubuntu 7.10 and found that beryl had joined with compiz to make compiz fusion
