Command to start screensaver preview
 

Can anyone tell me what the command is to start a screensaver preview? I need to get the verbose it generates.

/usr/bin/xscreensaver-command

/usr/bin/xscreensaver-text

I've tried the commands, but I don't think I'm getting what I need. The reason I need to get the verbose, is that sometimes when I preview screensavers and then exit the preview, the xscreensaver windows freezes.

/usr/bin/xscreensaver starts the screensaver from the command line. If in a gui mode at the time you hit the settings button before it disappears. Try what you want but when you come back the config will disappears. To get back into open another terminal seesion and run the command /usr/bin/xscreensaver-demo. Now you can modify all you want and see what output happens in the open terminal session windows. This configuration will differ in setup of screensaver in either KDE, Gnome or other window makers are being used. KDE can be a real pain when dealing with screensaver package. Depending on the installation settings some screensavers displayed fine when demoing but when it came time to run it displayed nothing.
