I've seen this sort of thing many times, which is why a lot of distros install more than one media player. Just as there's no such thing as bug-free software, so there are media files that have some minor imperfection: some players accept it and some don't. Just be grateful for Audacious!
It's just weird that some mp3's won't play, for no apparent reason. Could it be that something is wrong with the actual encoding of those mp3's? I think I will try to re-encode them with ffmpeg.
Edit: I restarted clementine a few times and it didn't change. Then I added more music to my library, and now it's playing everything without issue. So I guess all I had to do was re-scan my library.
