changing the Gnome Panel hidden size

Hi, I have searched google, and found a lot of information on this: I want to change the Gnome panel hidden size so that none of it shows when hidden. It defaults to (I think) 3 pixels, and you can see it on the screen when it should be hidden. The information I have found says to change it in the Configuration Editor (gconf-editor, under apps/panel/global/panel_minimized_size). This is a deprecated option (it says so right there). But, I would like to know where is the new option that replaces it? Of course, there are going to be those who want to hide the panel totally. And since It could be done in older versions, why not now?

I am running Debian Etch, with Gnome v2.14. Is there anything I can do to make the panel hide completely?Windows does, so I'm thinking Gnome has to be able to..

Thanks,

Jim
