Cannot access X server with different login ?

Greetings all,

I have two user accounts 'umanga' and 'vito'.
I logged into GNome session using 'umanga' account.

Then I open a console ,'su' and login as root.
Next using 'login' command I login as user 'vito'.

After that, when i try to execute GUI applications it says
"kcalc: cannot connect to X server "
When trying to do 'xhost'
xhost: unable to open display ""

Who can I run GUI application under this condition (under 'vito' account).

After you login as vito type

export DISPLAY=:0.0

Then you should be able to use graphics. BTW, why do you have to go to root and login as vito, you can just type

su - vito

when logged in as umanga and get the same result...
