BlackBox or Fluxbox using Hal

Sorry for the stupid topic but wasn't sure how to post that.

Anyway, I run Slackware and do not like using the big desktop environment's like KDE. Fluxbox & BlackBox is my choice but I would like to take advantage of the new hal in Slackware-Current. Is there any sidekick programs available that would give me notifications when events happen ( memory-sticks, flash cards ) that would pop up on the screen. I guess a file-manager may have this function but I'm not sure which one.

Ideas welcome...

Thanks David

I've just started using Xfce on a spare box, so don't know if it has the feature you want. It's supposed to be very lightweight for a DE (Desktop Environment), yet it is a DE, not just a WM. Perhaps it would work for you.
