Benchmarking DM or WM

Woot, first post :P

Anyways, I was wondering if there is a page or an artical that actually lists the performance difference between KDE and Gnome. Also compares those to the various WM's. I ask this because I've got an old system that I am trying to determine what to put on it desktop-wise

imho you should take a look at Xfce... should be much lighter on those systems than both KDE or GNOME...

Other peoples benchmarks may not be any good for you because a DE or WMs performance is determined by lots of factors e.g. hardware, how the distro built it, etc. The best thing to do is to run your own benchmarks on the hardware you intend to use or machines with similar specs.

Fluxbox runs well on just about anything but you might have to get used to its very minimalistic interface (or like it, depends). But Xfce is a good environment for a small system.
