Avant Windows Navigator acting weirdly - graphical glitches...

I know there are problems with thin white vertical lines showing up when certain applets for AWN don't work, but these aren't the same ones. Whenever I close a window (and sometimes open one), thick white blocks appear on the dock for a split second. It's not that big, but it gets annoying. I've attached a screenshot. I haven't seen anyone with this problem, but it may just be because no one has really cared. What's the problem and how can I fix it? Thanks. If it makes any difference, I'm running Ubuntu Hardy Heron.

Also, for some weird reason, all my applications in the manager have turned to "invalid launcher" with the cogs as the icon, and if I use the dock for a while, lots of extra applets that aren't really any applet appear (the blue squares). Nothing appears in my dock, but they are there in the manager. Deactivating them doesn't do anything.
