Arrange windows on taskbar

How do I stop windows on the taskbar moving around on the taskbar? For example if I have multiple windows for Firefox and various applications open (email client, terminal etc), they automatically rearrange in the order I had them in from time to time. My email client could be on the left hand side of the taskbar but could end up somewhere in the middle of the taskbar.

I'm using CentOS 7 with Gnome.

gnome-panel is doing that.
first thing, check out gnome-panel's preferences if you can change the behavior (you know, right-click => panel preferences => ...).
if it doesn't, you can use a different panel. just search your repositories.

Thank you so much. I will have a look.

Any recommendations for an alternative panel?

so it didn't work in gnome-panel?
maybe they are hiding advanced features, and you first have to install gnome-tweak or something to be able to change it.

as for recommendations... there's so many... just try something...
i don't know about the particular feature you want (i didn't even fully understand it), but generally i think xfce4-panel is very good. shouldn't pull in too many dependencies, either.
and be careful with kde stuff, they tend to pull in the whole effing kde desktop.

I couldn't find such option in gnome-tweak tool. I installed MATE instead which is much better. Thanks for your help.
