Application freezes on Ubuntu
 

Dear all:

On my Ubuntu, whenever I open a terminal, it freezes after sometime. And then, I have to 'force quit' the application. Also, it runs correctly, for some time, when I restart the OS. But, the same 'freeze' continues after some time. The applications launched on the terminal freeze too! This is true even for some other applications like Firefox.

What to do?

Now, Firefox behaves in a weird way. See the screenshot of it. It just turns 'black-and-white', but still runs OK.

What do I do here?

What kernel and what grafic card do you use?
If you have default Ubuntu 8.04 kernel,upgrade to new linux image which is now available in the repos,maybe it will help.There are lots of similar bugs reported but they all depend on the hardware and the kernel.
Check launchpad.net starting from here.
Post errors that you see when starting apps from the terminal,if any.
Also check your kern.log and syslog for any errors and post them here.
