Amarok demux error

Fedora 6
GNOME 2.16

I know Amarok is a KDE app, but I love it and want it to work in GNOME. I have it working in SuSE with GNOME, by installing Amarok and dependencies then compiling from source xine-libs and xine-gui. Amarok is using the Xine engine.

So, I did the same thing in Fedora and while xine will play my streaming radio station (http://www.di.fm), I keep getting "no suitable demux plugin" messages and "url protocol not supported" error messages when I try to play them with Amarok.

I have my codecs loaded in /usr/local/lib/codecs and /usr/lib/codecs to make sure they are found. I can also run 'mplayer -playlist <playlist name>' and the stream is fine. MPlayer is using the same codec directories.

Any suggestions?

xmms

I decided to uninstall and go with xmms. In order for xmms to play streaming audio, I had to install the mp3 codecs located here, in convenient rpm format:

I wonder what would have happened if you had added the codec path to the $PATH variable?

Also trying to play aif format do not work,
Im using Fedora core 6 Gnome, also tried with KDE and it still doesnt work, just says no suitable demux plugin!!! can play em in xine...

HELP! tried to make it work for 2 weeks now =( (btw im a linux noob)

also tried other similar program like banshee and it doesnt work there either...

adding to your PATH

I didnt try this, I decide to use xmms, but if you want to try this, open a terminal, and type the following:

PATH=$PATH:/path/to/codecs

Where /path/to/codecs is the path to the codecs, like /usr/lib/codecs.

Then type

export PATH

Give amarok a try again and see if that fixes it. I am not sure if it will, but it is worth a shot. If you must have amarok, try SuSE, it works with Gnome for me on it.

Did you try installing the RPM mentioned above?
