Advice needed on buying a desktop

hi all

I am planning to buy a new desktop and I do not want to pay for propreitary operating systems. I searched through two major brands (Dell and HP) and found out that even if I buy a desktop with proprietary OS and then discard it, it is a cheaper option than buying a desktop with no OS. Can anyone suggest good deals where I do not have to pay for OS?

Most large brands buy millions and millions of windows licences, hence the actual cost that is added onto the sale price it is not actually that much anyway. I think you might find it is a lot of research just to save $50.

There are many vendors that will sell you a machine with no OS or Linux pre-installed.

Alternatively you could just build one yourself from the individual components, which I'd recommend you consider doing
