Adept not workin' on a Kubuntu laptop.

It worked about a week ago... Here's a screenshot.

http://supertunaman.com/adept_not_working.png

I've tried restarting, going to the performance moniter to end the programs (they weren't there), and yelling drill seargent style at my computer screen. None of it worked. Help me!

just open up a terminal and type ps aux. This will give a list of all the processes that are running.

I'm stumped myself. I don't see anything there that seems like it's related to apt. I don't know if it will give any information, but maybe try using apt-get from the command line to do whatever you're trying to do. It will probably give a similar error, but it might pharse it differently to include what's causing the problem.

What exactly you type depends on what you're trying to do. To install something is "apt-get install [name of package]" To update your packages is "apt-get update" followed by "apt-get upgrade". You type this into a terminal and hit enter.

well that's giving you an error since you're not using root privliges. You need to add sudo before any of these commands. Sorry I probably should have specified that before.

You need to have administrative priliges to run that command. Most of linux has a seperate account called root that you switch to, by typing su. Ubuntu has a different system by default, where you type sudo before the command you want to run. It will then ask for your password. So you need to type "sudo apt-get update" instead of just "apt-get update" for instance.

Well I went on the Kubuntu IRC channel, and the people there gave me a similar command to try that actually worked! So this nightmare is over. Thanks!
