I haven't tried nothing yet.
Can you suggest any ways how to do this?=)
As I know there is only 128 size possibility in KDE Control Centre.
Is there any pretty config or smth to make it working?
Then you do not have a problem. Let me know when you have tried something.

OK - you can change an icon from the "properties" dialog (rt-click > properties). Browse to the 250x250 icon you want to use and select it.
(I have used png images as large as 600x800 for this.)

You can only use icons that are actually present in your computer.
The really big icons are scalable (.svg) and use vector graphics to draw them to any size. Have a look at www.kdelook.org

Changing properties of icon doesn't help. I mean when I right click on icon and browse to my collection of 256x icons and change, say, Home icon, there is no result.
"The really big icons are scalable (.svg) and use vector graphics to draw them to any size. " - Don't you mean I can't use 256 .png icons?
Well, I don't know what you're doing... I've just now changed my home folder icon to use the same png file as my desktop background... that's 1024x768. Mind you, this is gnome. However I used to do this stuff in KDE too.
"select custom icon" (I think) used to be in the rt-click menu... but in the properties dialog there is a picture of the icon next to the name. When I click on that, it gives me the opportunity to select a custom icon from /usr/share/pixmaps - I change this to the location of the png file I want to use.
Another approach would be to install your icons as a theme.
Have you had a look at KDE-look (link, prev message) for more about icons and icon themes.

Don't you think I'm a linux newbie!!?? And I've been hunting for icons all my life.. like a hobby.. don't think I'm doing this all day long.. And I can't set 256x size icons on my desktop! And what is the problem with my signature?? I'm asking for help/advice not discussing my skills..!
Well, without sitting at the machine, there's not much I can do.
Can you go into detail?
Where are the icon images you want to use stored?
Is this intended to be a full icon theme or just for one or two applications?
When you rt-click on a launcher (like on your desktop), can you see the "properties" option? Can you see how to select a custom icon from there? What exactly do you do?
Where did you get this set of icon images from? (Maybe I can try various methods with them and see if I get the same problem?)
Can you try using an arbitrary png image as an icon image like I did?
You can test to see if the icon size is really a problem by scaling an image down to (say) 32x32 and seeing if you can use that.
And, of course, what is the actual result you want? (What is the effect you hope for when you use 250x250 icons? Perhaps there is a way of getting the same effect some other way?)
Ok. Let's take some of my icon images which are stored in my home folder. The "Poisson_Pack" icons were taken from deviantart.com. They are all 256x256 size in this package. So..when I right click on icon and browse to my collection of 256x256 icons and change it, it still gets 128x128 size. How to make KDE understand 256 size icons on desktop?=)
Is it the only way to install icon theme which could include 256 size icons in it's package? I don't think there are too much such themes. Usually they include sizes from 16x16 to 128x128. Now I'm using "OS-K" icon set installed through KDE Contol Centre. Is it posible to show 256 size icons separatly?
Ahhh... the icon uses the correct image but it is the wrong size?
Perhaps that is because the original icon was 128x128? The new image will be scaled to be compatible with the old one. You can stretch the icon to suit.
Have you tried the "stretch icon" thing?
Or - perhaps the maximum icon size is 128x128?
For eg. When I change the icon image to a 1024x768 image, the icon does not appear that size. In fact, I cannot get it bigger than a set maximum for the theme I'm using. You can change the icon defaults by creating your own theme.
I've reached the result by editing buildset script and index.desktop in OS-K icon set.
Of course it can be done in any other icon set too.
So the result is posted here=)http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=51706
Well it was quite simple. I took buildset script from OS-K iconset (which was installed, as we remember=) through KDE Control Centre), (and which we can find in /home/your_name/.kde/share/icons/OS-K/) and added some things there - SIZES="256x256 128x128 96x96 72x72 64x64 56x56 48x48 $REQUIRED_SIZES"
Then in index.desktop file which is also in this iconset - added:
[256x256/apps]
Size=256
Context=Applications
Type=Threshold
