'su' password?

First off I want to say that I am another newbie ...

When I try to install an app, It says that I cannot.

I have typed 'su' in the command line and when it asks for my password, I enter the only password I have everused on this install and it is wrong?

where/how can i find the correct password?

if all you enter is "su", then it's the root password, which you *did* enter if you're using something like fedora, redhat, mandriva etc.. during the install. if it's an ubuntu variant, you don't use the su command, you use sudo instead.

This just happened to me during an install, so as unlikely as it seems . . . . you may have had the caps lock on during the part where you enter your password. Try entering it with caps.

'su' password

It seems the problem is solved, as I have used 'sudo' not 'su'
as I do have 'Ubuntu' installed.
thanks for your help! :)

Maybe you should add the distro to your profile, so we can see what you use.
