I'm running DI 2014-3

It is an EFI install on a GPT partition table. I have NVIDIA-331 installed.

Twice in the last two weeks DI would not load (into lightdm). Going to terminal and type startx I get a black screen with cursor.

Trying start lightdm gives me no help. I get "Job failed to start" message. I've tried dpkg-reconfigure lightdm - still no luck.....

The first time this happened, (because of work commitments) I simply reinstalled Deepin (I use it for work). Today it has happened again but I have more time available to diagnose and try to fix it through gentler means.

It is a mystery and would love to get back my stuff. All advice is welcome.

I solved the problem.

It seems that some gnome packages in the repo conflict with Deepin. They should be blocked!

Solution was this:

1. At the frozen startup screen ctrl-alt-F1 to get into terminal
2. at the login screen enter username and password
3. enter the following at the prompt: sudo apt-get install --reinstall deepin-desktop-environment

this fixed the problem (this time).
