x-applications-within-an-lxd-container

Hello altogether,

I´ve installed LXD within Xubuntu (Xubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, 32bit) which itself is running within a virtual machine. I could get it started and installed an Ubuntu-image (ubuntu xenial i386, as listed
on https://us.images.linuxcontainers.org/ ).
It really seems to work fine and I´m quite satisfied with the results.
My ultimate goal however is to launch a programme using a GUI within the container. To be more specific: I want to launch teamviewer within the container.
Has anyone any idea how I could manage to start such X-applications within an LXD-container?

Thanks a lot in advance.
Greetings.
Rosika

P.S.:
system (host): Lubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, 64bit
system (guest)VM: Xubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, 32bit

*****EDIT*****

Sorry. I just found out that there´s a more suitable forum: "Linux-Containers".
So I think it´s best to mark my thread as "solved" here and transfer it to the "containers"-forum.

next time please ask moderators to move your thread into another forum.
I think this is not really easy, you can find some related info on the net about running firefox (or other browser) inside a container. Actually not really easy, and there are several different approaches available.

O.K., I´ll do that. Sorry for the inconvenience I caused.

I´ve already tried to find some information regarding that problem. Up and until now I haven´t found anything helpful. Yet I´ll keep looking.

Greetings.

Hi pan64,

thanks a lot for your reply and the link.

The problem with docker (at least to the best of my knowledge) is that it runs only on 64bit-architecture.
As I want to get the containers going on Xubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, 32bit (my VM) docker seems to be out of the question. But I got
LXD working on it. Therefore I asked about any tricks regarding LXD/LXC.
Nevertheless thanks for your answer.

Greetings.
Rosika

Hi pan64,

thanks for the link.
Despite the fact that I´ve already looked in so much places (including Stéphane Graber's) I can´t recollect having browsed
that particular site. So after a bit of reading I´ll see what I can do about my "problem".

Thanks again and have a nice day.

Many greetings.
Rosika

Teamviewer on Linux requires access to a "framebuffer", and it is a hard-coded requirement in the binary.

Therefore, you would need to follow https://lists.linuxcontainers.org/pi...ch/011199.html
in addition to my previous reply on another thread (the one about running "ssh -X"...).

Running GUI app or entire desktop from an LXD container

There are several posts describing how to do this on the LXD sub-reddit.

One describes how to configure a single gui application to run from an LXD container.

Another describes how to use x2go to get an entire desktop from an LXD container.
