tell me about linux certifications

Guys I'm a windows admin I just really starting using linux last year. Our education rep at the training center we attend sent over a email talking about linux certs but not in much detail. The main two she spoke of was Linux Professional Institute and redhat. So I would like to ask how does redhat certs work for example is there an entey level cert such as the mcp with microsoft? I know there is a full blown reh had certified engineer. BTW do we have any redhat engineers here or Linux Professional Institute cert holders? Also I would like to ask is the Linux Professional Institute respected?

well we have a Certification forum, so as well as me asking for this thread to be moved to there, you need to read there for many opinions about the relevant certs. I've certainly said alot about LPI and RHCT/RHCE there if you take the time to read that forum.
