I'd like to take a more methodical approach to learning linux - making sure that I really know what I'm doing and not just by trial-and-error. I've learnt a lot through experimenting, but it's time to do some solid learning.

I thought that using a study guide to Linux+ or LPI would be a good idea as they should cover the basics well. And eventually I might sit the exam.

I note that there's a new edition coming for CompTia's Linux+ (so no reviews as yet) and O'Reilly's LPI Cert in a Nutshell reviews quite well.

Would you recommend either of these?

There was also a 'Linux Bible' in the bookstore in town. The print quality wasn't great though. (yes that does matter as my sight isn't fantastic and I study in the evening.)

I found a couple of very good study guides online -http://www.nongnu.org/lpi-manuals/ and http://www.happy-monkey.net/pocket/index.html, these would do, but I do like a paper book as I spend such a lot of time reading on the screen.

I bought only the cert in a nutshell and I was very happy with it. Otherwise I used some resources from IBM developer works, and some past questions from I don't remember where.
