I have books on both of those, and it seems to me that the LPIC test is a better test of working CLI knowledge. That being said, they both cover about the same ground, so yes, If you get one the other should be quite easy.
If you were considering going for the Novell CLP cert later, it might be good to know that Novell's study guide for Linux+ (offered from CompTIA's website) purportedly covers 1/3 of the material needed for the CLP exam (per Novell's website). Just a thought as you consider your options.
