Linux+ VS LPI?
 

Who is Linux+ certified? Is it a hard test, and what should I expect to study for it? Also, Linux+ VS. LPI? Advantages/Disadvantages?

I am CompTIA A+ and Network+ certified now, and am using Ubuntu 8.04 Linux and LOVE IT!!!! P.S. I want to be a Network Admin for a job, (Cisco, Linux, etc).

Linux+ is not _that_ hard (basic stuff) but it's harder than the A+ and Network+

I passed it on my second try. But know the command line...most Ubuntu users I know are very "green" when it comes to the command line and syntax...no offense or anything

My advice is to study from more than one book...that's the mistake that I've made...

I'm Linux+ certified. Test was basic, but there were things that I would never care about that was on the test, but nonetheless, you need to know it for the test. I heard that the LPIC is more difficult, and quite possibly more respected. Either way, get one of them. It's better than nothing if you are serious about a career in systems and network admin.

I've done the LPI Level 1 and going for the Level 2 soon. The reason why I went for LPI instead of Linux+ is that the Linux+ just seemed too basic and the LPI seems to be a bit more highly regarded.

Are you doing this for your current job, or help to find a new one. I would like to take the exam at the next "linux show".

I am doing this to polish up my Linux skills and general interest. I am currently self employed and I think I will remain that way for a while. Sitting for certifications is a way for me to explore and try things that I don't usually use Linux for.

what books or other self study stuff did you guys use for lpi1 and lpi2?? Im interested in those certs!

I used LPI Linux Certification in a Nutshell.

I know its been a while since this post was last update, I would appreciate you can still help me out here.

I'd like to know if this is the sole material you used for both the exams? Can you give some advice or pointers that would help me score that extra point?

There's new (3rd) edition of the book. New one covers only LPIC-1.
There's also good book from Roderick W. Smith (Sybex), and Michael Jang's LPIC-1 book. You can find all three on Amazon.
Also, IBM has good LPIC prep material on their developerworks pages:

You need one rpm and one deb-based distro to practice.

Isn't the CompTIA Linux+ and LPIC-1 are same like if you pass Linux+ you automatically get LPIC-1 certification plus another two certification from Novell. :)
