Im studying for the RHCE exam by using the following version of RHEL.

Hi,

RedHat isn't a free product, the Michael Jang's RHCE study book suggest using one of the following when you do not have access to a modern RedHat version (in this order):

CentOS
Fedora

tnx for your reply.We have a red hat login.So hopefully we can download latest RHEL version.Am I correct ? Is it ok to practise with latest RHEL version ?

for the real exam Is it ok to practice with other version like fedora,centos ? dont we get mess up while doing the exam since we dont familiar ?

These questions may seems like priminalary questions.I dont have practice with what you have mentioned.

I don't know who "we" are and what deal (if any) you ("we") have with RedHat. The company I work for has a deal with RedHat which makes it possible to use RedHat 5.2 to practise (we are not allowed to take a copy home, all needs to be done inside the office).

There might be the possibility to download a RedHat 5.2 trial version (30 days trial if I'm not mistaken), haven't looked into this myself, but it might be worth checking out.

The current RHCE exam focusses on RedHat 5.2. I would use this version if you have access to it. Using an older version (you mention RedHat 4.2 in your first post) is not a good idea.

Michael Jang states in his RHCE book that CentOS 5 is a reliable alternative (he tried it himself). Fedora on the other hand might be to new to be used.

I would suggest, assuming that you cannot get RedHat 5.2, to use CentOS 5. It is free and is compatible with RedHat 5. Btw: CentOS is based on RedHat.

Try CentOS, the colours and logo might be different, but the rest works the same.

2 tips:

- Buy or borrow the RHCE Linux study guide (5th edition) by Michael Jang. It covers all the subjects that could be in the exam and also has practice exam labs/questions.

- When you think you are ready to take the exam try taking a test exam. RedHat does provide these, but I don't know if these are available in the region you live (ask RedHat about it).
