take exam XK0-002. It's "recent" since the test was created in 2004. Hurry up and take it before they release a xk0-003!

This is what the CompTIA FAQ says for the Linux+ test:

Question
What is the exam code for the CompTIA Linux+ test?
Answer
The exam code for the CompTIA Linux+ test is XK0-001. The exam code for the revised Linux+ exam is XK0-002.

It does not list a last date to take exam.
If you need a better answer than that, contact CompTIA.

I have not gotten any newsletters from CompTIA about a new xk003 test. Just focus on the xk002 exam.
