How to prepare for Red Hat Enterprize Linux 5 or ( RHCE ) Exam.

Hi friends:),

I have join for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 training from authorize center. The modules included are RH-033 Linux essentials, RH-133 Linux Network Administration, RH-253 Linux Network and Security.I will go for certification of these papers after these training modules completition .I got the course material for these modules but I find this material very discrete.

Can you tell me which books and standard material I should use for preparing to clear this exam.

This has been asked (and answered) on this site many times. Not much we can add to it...do a search, and you'll find many answers.

And if you're finding the course material difficult...you'll find the exam MORE difficult.

Use this site for practice

Do depend completely on the books provided by center. They cover the course but not questions. Use this site for RHCE question and answer.
This site cover all RHCE exam question and answer in very simple language absolutely free.

I suggest you to purchase some study guide from ebay.
You can also search some video courses by Google.

What's more, the Official website of Redhat is a good choice to look through.

Hi,

best you try to get as much practice as possible. RHCE exam is a practice exam, which means you do not have to answer multiple choice questions. The problem are not the questions during the exam, the problem is the relatively small time frame to solve the problems. From my experience there is no time to search man pages or other documentation.

Hello All,

Does anyone know what version of RedHat the current RHCE exam uses? I got a copy of RHEL 5.3 (server) from work and I'm downloading RHEL 5.5 (server) from RedHat's site right now. I would obviously prefer to use whatever is being used on the test.

Also, I took and passed the CompTIA Linux+ on Friday. Any thoughts on how relevant that study effort will be towards the RHCE?

Thanks,

Dear Guys,
I recently took the RHCE exam twice, They changed the style of the exam and evaluation process, Now every thing is automated including the evaluation, I know some people passed the exam easily on RHEL 4, I think the scenario is worse now with the new style of the process.
First time I took the exam a month ago I faced a problem on the boot process and it took some time to solve and know what happened exactly, And later I found it's a bug on ypbind as when you wrongly block access to your loopback with iptables using DROP and not REJECT the timeout for NIS and NFS connections pass the 10 minutes time, You may check this bug if you want more details,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=112770
I though it's just a bad luck and I wasn't aware what I will see in the exam first time I take it, So I made some revisions and took the exam again, Notice my score the first time,
RHCT components score: 51.9%
RHCE components score: 65.6%
You must score 70% or more to pass.
Second time I really did better as I found the same questions which I saw before and reviewed so I thought I will do better and pass of course.
But I got thise strange score
RHCT components score: 81.5%
RHCE components score: 62.5%
Only passed the RHCT. I really can't understand why I got less score on RHCE portion second time I took the exam, They give you hints on the exam to check your answer, I finished the exam in just 2 hours and spent about 90 minutes doing revisions and I think I solved all questions right !!
First time I took the exam had bad luck with some services and didn't complete solving the whole questions and score 65.6 and second time I had good luck and solved all the questions and also reviewed for along time and did better and got low score which is 62.5
I really can't understand what is happening
I think there is something wrong on the new style of the exam.

Thank you linuxman11 for you input. Maybe, there is something wrong with the scripts and Linux OS used for the test.

linuxman11 06-20-2010 04:06 AM

I was really depressed after some years of studying and working then to fail in a med level exam, I thought before that to complete and study to prepare for there second level certificate, I don't like to work on redhat systems anymore although it was my favorite OS.
May be that was a bad luck on the exam, I am not sure.
As may a lot of people know, Those certificates are more commercials and designed to gain money, So I don't encourage people to gain certificates, You know that there are professionals work in big corporations based on there experience and not any more.
I am certified LPI since Feb 2005, That time there exam was costing only 100$ and they mentioned on certificate that they don't expire there certificates, Now it costs 150$ for 1 exam and they expire there certificates now,
As some body said before, All began to be greedy.

A certification can be good for diference resons:

- when someone is looking for a new job.
- The hiring company required it.
- Personal challenge.
- And a good way to learn a new technology.

RHCE exam

Dear friends!
I had passed RHCE in 2nd attempt my both scores are as under:

1st attempt:
RHCT: 67.1 %
RHCE: 54.6 %

2nd attempt:
RHCT: 100%
RHCE: 81.2%

The most important thing that i had understood from this experience is:

1. Technical competence (Practical as well as thorough practice)
2. Good Control and decision making in stress

Above all, the luck also counts a lot since the examiner or the RedHat does not take liability of any hardware problem faced to the candidate. So pray well.
