Do I have to re-take RHCSA when I do RHCE?

Hello all,
I am currently an RHCSA (Earned it in March of this year). I am scheduled to take RH255 (Systems Administration III) In August, and I am signed up for the RHCE exam at the end of the course.

Heres my question: Since I am currently an RHCSA, will I have to re-take the RHCSA portion of the exam when I test for the RHCE? I would really like to just go straight into the RHCE portion of the exam and focus all my studying during the week long course soley on RHCE. Have any of you taken the RHCE after already earning the RHCSA?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

My understanding is that it depends. Of course, Red Hat is the final authority. What I say here is just my personal interpretation.

per http://www.redhat.com/certification/faq/

My understanding is that RHCTs were granted through March 1 or so -- and are grandfathered as RHCSA's, per

Quote:
What if I recently earned my RHCT on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5?

While RHCSA differs from RHCT, Red Hat will issue RHCSA retroactively to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 RHCTs in order to provide continuity for them and potential employers who are not yet familiar with RHCSA.
If that is how you got your RHCSA, then yes, you'd have to take both, per:

Quote:
However, the differences mean that version 5 RHCSAs who wish to upgrade to RHCE must re-certify as RHCSA on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 in order to ensure that their skill sets are complete. In other words, an RHCSA on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 must pass both the RHCSA exam and RHCE exams on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 in order to become an RHCE on that release.
However, if you took the RHCSA under RHEL 6, it sounds like you're OK to just take the RHCE exam.

Quote:
Under the new program, RHCSA is the universal entry point into the program. One might choose from among a number of different potential training paths to get there, but earning one's RHCSA is a requirement to becoming an RHCE. It will not be necessary to earn RHCSA first before being eligible to enroll for an RHCE exam. It is necessary to have earned RHCSA before one can be an RHCE. By making RHCSA the prerequisite to everything else, we make it easier for individuals to make the appropriate choices in their training and certification decisions.
Once again, this is just my interpretation -- my advice is to call Red Hat with your question.

Thanks for the replies. I Earned my RHCSA under the new program, and earned it under RHEL6, so I dont have to worry about being grandfathered.

I really hope that they did in fact change the structre so that I do not have to re-take the RHCSA portion when earning my RHCE.

I will give Redhat a call Monday to confirm, and post what I find on here for future reference.

The Sys Admin III course (RH255) includes both exams in the fees.

If you are currently RHCSA on RHEL6 then you only have to take the RHCE exam in the afternoon.

If you were RHCT on RHEL5 and were "upgraded" to RHCSA, then you have to do both.
