Lightbulb Linspire 5-0 for Free

I just got Linspire 5.0 for free. Below is what i did:

1) go to http://www.linspire.com
2) add linspire 5-0 to your cart
3) click on "apply code"
4) enter promotional code "JDSWelcome"
5) select "update"
6) register an account
7) you will be taken to the download area where you can download via bittorrent, ftp, or http

Good luck.

Ah, another one of these. These "coupons" crop up from time to time. As far as we can tell (and no one from Linspire has yet complained) these are all perfectly ok.

Hmmm, I think a pattern is emerging. Are they looking for converts then?

You've still got to pay for CNR. I've tried using apt-get, and it's buggy.

Question: Is this a demo/trial or limited in anyway besides not being about to use CNR? I might give it a try.

Nope, this is a full version. As a matter of fact... I am using it now . Yes if you want CNR, you will have to pay. "JDSWelcome" also will give you a 49.99 dollar discount on the CNR edition if you want to use that. It is debian based, so it does have apt-get, whereas CNR is not completely necessary.

No. I think these codes are always around, you just don't know what they are. It took me a while to find them. I really wanted to try this OS out, but why pay for Linux?

To support the community - if you aren't a coder and don't contribute to projects, it's one of the ways to help.

But contributing to the project is a different than being forced to pay for it.

I agree, but no one is forced to pay for it. However, paying for it also pays for those developers who wrote it, those designers who created the cd insert and labels and everyone else concerned. It also helps to pay the donations made by the company to other projects. For example, Linspire contribute heavily to KDE.

Exactly. You don't have to buy CNR if you don't want to. You can install stuff yourself and most likely crash the system and have to install it again. What is the complaint? CNR basic (which has most of the features people want already)is only $19.95 and good for a year. You don't get the discounts on the clothing or the free OS upgarde (if there even is one durring the year) and it limits you to only one aisle. Big deal, I have never used any of those, but I still get all the updates, access to the CNR with only a few restrictsions that I mentioned that don't bother me. For all the time you'll spend surfing around and compiling code and installing you can do it all with one click CNR.
