While I'm very interested in Linspire, I have taken the plunge also with SuSE and have a proliferation of Live CDs including the one of Sun JDS put out by the UK monthly magazine LinuxUser Issue 36.

It is an absolute delight to use, and the only problem I have with it is that Sun's policy in Australia is for the large corporate user... with (from what I gather) no intention at present to make it available for us lesser mortals lol!

I'm wondering if there is a way, like with Knoppix, to install to HDD so that a decent sort of evaluation can be made?

Added as an afterthought... Yes Jeremy, much appreciated :)

eagles-lair:

If you are interested in JDS - JDSHelp.org is a community site that has put together the additions, etc. to make the distribution work for us mere mortals.

Please take a look at the downloads (RPMS). Also, the documentation and knowledge base provide lots of self help.

With regard to the LiveCD - if you have the Morphix distribution, you should visit morphix.org and look at how they build their liveCD's and installers, etc.

Best

Tom

Thankyou Tom. I'll do that. In the meanwhile an associated quickie...

It has several references while booting, think I saw Morphix, and the obvious SuSE "Bienvenu" etc screen, etc... but looking at the CD, there is no directory structure like on the Morphix and Knoppix ones... I suspect it is unarchived on the fly which makes it rather difficult I suspect. However will go visiting... and yes I found that site from various links of posts in here too, thanks.

If you boot up the Live CD and then look at the directory tree, you'll see a directory called /morphix.

But that installer is broken. So, you would have to used the latest installer. Also, look at the the way the Morphix people suggest building you own iso.

Hmm a bit of a problem. Doesn't seem to matter what machine I run it on, it tells me that partitions are read-only and so are network shares, even if I attempt to change the permissions.

So any ideas how to copy the the directory structure over? Looks to me as though it may be set up deliberately this way?
