VM Ware: problem transferring text

I am unable to copy and paste text between notepad ( x p host ) and kedit ( gentoo guest ), despite having checked ' allow copy and paste' and ' enable VMCI ' in (the virtual machine)->settings->options->guest isolation. I'm not sure what to do next... help?

Hi -

Have you installed VMWare tools in your VM yet?

For example:

I think this is already installed in incognito by default -- I have noticed in the lines of text that scroll by up on bootup one line pertaining to VM Ware.

In case it is something else, and I need to install VM Ware tools, this is difficult because Incognito does not have a permanent file system.

Maybe I could install it each time I boot, but I have already tried to install a couple of applications this way and both have failed due to writing permissions.

I'm still stuck....

open-vm-tools, the open source alternative to VMWare tools, is installed. I can confirm that the shared clipboard buffer isn't working. Will investigate.
