Incognito failing to start in XP or Vista environment

I have Incognito on a thumb drive. If I boot the computer onto the thumb drive it works perfectly.

However, I am in XP and I insert the thumb drive, I get the following error:

While running Incognito in this mode, think of the following:

1) Beware that your Microsoft Windows installations might have keyloggers,
viruses or other malware installed. Incognito's defenses can do nothing
against them.

2) If you are using a persistent home volume your changes will not be saved
during this session but you will be able to access previously saved data.

3) Press CTRL-ALT to escape from the QEMU window, and CTRL-ALT-F to toggle
fullscreen mode.

I have so far had the same result on two XP machines and one Vista machine.

Please can someone offer me some guidance towards getting it to run in a window in XP?

PS feature request: I think it would be a good idea to state the version of incognito in the readme.txt file on the thumb drive. I don't have any idea what version I'm using, but I only burned the CD a couple of weeks ago so it is either the latest or the one immediately prior.

I don't have access to any Windows installation so I cannot do much about this.

Is it not you that have coded up this functionality? surely this has been done by someone who needs to run incognito from within XP. And surely they have got it working - otherwise surely it would not be included...?

Has anyone got this working? I have tried it on several XP machines and it fails each time. I think there is some bug in the QEMU distributed with Incognito. Is there anyone on the task of getting incognito to run on a VM?

Correct. It was implemented by the previous maintainer. I'm opting to remove it due to my problems maintaining it.

You might have better luck with VMWare -- that works perfectly for me.

I've had a similar problem to Sylvester. When i run Qemu, i get the language options, but as soon as i select one, it throws up an error message and terminates immeadietly (i have no idea what this message says because it terminates too fast, and believe me, ive TRIED to get a screenshot...).

Ive tried this on a machine that dual boots win xp and win 7, and a different laptop with vista, and all 3 get exactly the same symptoms.

i have a hunch im not doing something right ... booting from CD and USB work fine.

On a completely different note, When i try and start Vidalia, i get the icon in the tray, but if i click on it, it disappears without a trace, even on the live CD. Nothing major (torK works fine), but would be nice to fix

oh and im using the 2009.0beta version of incognito

As I've said before, I don't have access to any Windows systems and thus cannot really maintain the QEMU feature. If you really want it you can try installing Incognito to a USB drive and manually upgrade QEMU to any of the newer releases available at: http://homepage3.nifty.com/takeda-toshiya/qemu/
