I have just installed Mandrake 9.1 and the install went fine. When I type startx or xinit my sceen goes blank and then comes back with an error saying that there were no screens. I logged in as root and ran xf86conifg. I have found my monitor refresh rates for veritcal and horizontal and have found my video card. I set the color to 256 and resolution to 640x480 so I know my monitor can handle it. I have noticed though when asked if I want to save I say yes and the next time I configure none of the order of the resolutions I have set are the same. Should this happened. What should I do next to try to get my X server up and running.
xf86config ask if it can write to XF86Config, but xfree86 uses XF86Config-4 by default. Check /etc/X11 if XF86Config-4 exist.
If so, try renaming your XF86Config file configured by xf86config to XF86Config-4 or simply delete XF86Config-4 if you don't need it anymore. Then X will user XF86Config as the default
i had a simular problem today with x i could probe my video chip but i could not get it to run even after running rescue mode this seems to be a running thread in mandrake 9.0
Instead of starting an entirely new thread I was wondering if anyone here could help me with this. I have a cd burner and I am trying to burn in K3B. I have so far went through the setup and setup found my cd burner. I click burner cd and there is no drive to select. I go to K3B configure and it doesn't have anything listed under devices. Also I try to make a like to the cd-rom on the desktop. I go into the Mandrake control center and find that it say my burner is /dev/scd0 so I add new drive and I double click and it says that it can not find the drive.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
what more can i give i could not configure x it did probe the video chip but something about xserver fonts not being there i do not know whether this was due to me installing a new desk top xpde all i know is that rescue mode did not work and there seems to be no x86 this seems to be a common issue from the few threads i have read
bentbike1, can you try using some punctuation in your posts, the all one sentence format is as confusing as l33t, especially for people to whom english is a second language...like americans
